Urawaan - burns victim

There are many new stories which reach our hearts but few which can be as heart rending as the tale Urawann Boonphuek who suffered severe burns in July earlier this year.
Urawann is a bright girl, who despite losing her parents and being looked after by her Aunt had a love of reading and hopes for the future. But when a candle set fire to her bedroom in Klong Toey and caused extensive burns to large area of her body, her future all but disappeared.

For most of us with good medical care this horrific accident would be a huge traumatic incident but without treatment, the horror of the situation would be unbearable for most. Unfortunately, Urawann’s medical costs are significant and cannot be covered by her Aunt’s income. At present Urawann is confined to one room where her wounds need specialist medical treatment and physical therapy to prevent long term disability from contractures. Some have become infected and refuse to heal and she is thin, emaciated and unable to move. Understandably, she is in deep depression over her future and the daily pain that she must endure.
Urawann’s future seems bleak but it need not be this way.

We can all make a difference and play a small part in helping Urawann recover from this dreadful accident by contribution to the cost of her medical care. You’re your help we can move Urawann to Chulalongkorn Hospital were she can receive the correct medical care and start the long road to recover. Financial contributions can be in the form of small or large donations from individuals, or it can be in the form of a corporate donations or sponsorship.

Uraiwaan Boonphuek update 20 February 20007

On February 20th, 2007 we went to visit Khun Uraiwann Boonphuek at King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital to make sure that her hospital bills were being paid and that she is progressing well. Her doctor's diagnosis of severe burns scarring in the area of popliteal fossa, which is on the back of her legs resulted in further scheduled surgery to release the scar contracture. Following medication she is in good spirits although is still using a weekchair to move around. Urewan still needs the assistance of nurses daily and will continue with rehabilitation works after her wounds have healed. Her need finacial needs are continuing and she has a long way to go before she can lo eave the hospital, so if you are able to help financially, please don't hesitate to get in touch with us at Medconsult.

Uraiwaan Boonphuek update 18 April 20007

Khun Uraiwan that Khun Nanthaman (Nurse consultant) visited her with Khun Martin at rehabilitation center (Thai Red Cross Hospital (Bangpoo)). on April 18 2007. Everyday the physical therapist will help her to do rehabilitation around 6 hrs a day from 8.00 AM.-12.00 PM and from 1.00 PM – 3.00 PM. She is good spirit although she can take a shower by herself and she can walk but her legs it can’t be flat on the bed, so Dr.Peera will plan to do surgery to release the scar contracture again on April 12, 2007. She will come back to Bangkok on April 11, 2007. After surgery she’ll stay at King Chulalongkorn hospital for 2 weeks then go back to Thai Red Cross hospital at Bangpoo for continue to do rehabilitation again. I have already talked with Khun Martin about the hospital bill and her education. Khun Martin will pay her the hospital bill and about her education; now she has the education book, so she can read it.
