Allergies are when the body is hypersensitive to a certain food or substance. Children in families with a history of allergies are more likely to have an allergy. However, any child is just as prone to allergies. It is important to monitor your child’s allergies as they can cause serious discomfort.
These are the most common food allergies:
· Tree nuts
Some kids even have pet allergies, dust allergies, or pollen allergies. Normally kids tend to sneeze or cough when they have come into contact with something allergenic. They could also develop rashes and hives. Some allergies may even cause an upset stomach or diarrhea. It is important to look out for these signs as you cannot always control the food eaten. Moreover, they could also be hidden in some food like traces of peanuts in cereal or traces of soy in flavorings.
You can only treat an allergic reaction, not the allergy, and that is usually done with the help of creams or medicines. You should try to prevent your child from getting a reaction by taking care of the foods they eat, giving them a mask to wear, and washing hands often. Dr. Elissa Abrams and Dr. Allan Becker of the University of Manitoba also suggested that feeding common allergenic foods to your child as early as four to six months could maybe help prevent an allergy from forming.
